Ani's Story
Sports Injury
"I wasn't ready to just give it up all yet."
Anelisa "Ani" Mteto is a professional rugby player with the Dallas Reds. It was the last two minutes of the 7s National Championship tournament game when, “Snap!” His Achilles tendon ruptured; he had no feeling in his foot.
"It was rough," he said. "I mean, I eat, drink, sleep rugby; like it's basically who I am."
The physical, emotional and mental toll an injury such as this can have on an athlete is immense. When faced with adversity, Ani had two options: quit and give up on the sport he loves or fight to get back to where he was.
After surgery, Ani chose to fight, beginning care at an outpatient center in Dallas that offers our Select Sports - Sports Medicine program. It provides specialized sports medicine services to athletes of all ability levels. Through focused education, training and equipment requirements, therapists who partake in the Select Sports – Sports Medicine program possess the tools, skills and expertise needed to return athletes back to their sports.
Watch Ani discuss what it took to come back from this devastating injury and the game-changing training that prepped him to return to the pitch.
