What to Expect
A pelvic health therapy appointment is designed to be thorough, individualized and focused on both assessment and treatment. Here’s what you can expect from your CoreVia Pelvic Health therapist and care plan.
Initial discussion
- Medical history review – Includes symptoms, surgeries, childbirth history, bowel and bladder habits, pain patterns and lifestyle factors.
- Goal setting and plan of care – Understanding what you want to achieve (pain relief, improved function, etc.).
Education
- Explanation of pelvic anatomy, how the pelvic floor works and why dysfunction can cause pain.
- Overview of what the therapy process will involve.
Physical assessment
- External exam – Posture, breathing mechanics, hip and core strength and movement patterns.
- Internal exam (optional and with consent) – Vaginal or rectal exam to check pelvic floor muscle tone, strength, coordination and muscle tenderness.
Treatment during the session
- Breathing and relaxation exercises – To reduce pelvic floor tension.
- Gentle movement or stretching – Targeting hips, low back and pelvic region.
- Biofeedback or electrical stimulation (if indicated) – To help retrain muscle function.
- Manual therapy – Internal or external techniques to release tight pelvic floor muscles and mobilize tissues.
Home program
- Personalized pelvic floor exercises for relaxation, mobility or strengthening.
- Education on posture, bladder/bowel habits and pain management strategies.
Follow-up plan
- Discussion of visit frequency and treatment progression.
