Margaret Gharis
Margaret Gharis was standing in church when everything around her started spinning. It was determined the issue was vestibular, the sensory system that controls balance and movement. She was unable to drive or live alone, a disturbing consequence for someone who routinely attended a Silver Sneakers fitness program and enjoyed road trips. She was referred to Physical Therapist Sarah Brehn for vestibular therapy. Initially, Margaret relied on a friend to drive her to appointments. When her friend couldn't transport her one day, she took the bus. What Margaret didn't realize was the bus stop was a mile away from our center. Rather than turning back, she walked. With only a cane, she experienced no balance issues, which greatly restored her confidence. Margaret worked with Sarah on her balance and vision issues. She has returned to her home and is regaining her independence.
