FAQs
Why is cancer rehabilitation a good choice?
Cancer rehabilitation is part of oncology care that treats the side effects of cancer. As part of the oncology care team, ReVital therapists treat many of the physical side effects which may limit your ability to move, function and participate in life activities.
When should I receive cancer rehabilitation care?
There are several points at which cancer rehabilitation is essential to your survivorship journey.
Prehabilitation, also known as prehab, occurs before an individual starts a cancer treatment. Prehab prepares you physically prior to surgery, radiation or systemic treatments such as chemo or immunotherapy and hormonal treatments. Research shows those who receive prehab have less physical side effects after treatment and often spend less time in the hospital.
Cancer rehabilitation is also key to recovery during treatment. Research shows staying active during treatment can enhance your ability to tolerate side effects and help you recover more quickly. ReVital therapists help you learn how to safely exercise and maintain mobility while also addressing any physical, functional and cognitive challenges.
As your treatment comes to an end, cancer rehabilitation can help you set and reach post-recovery goals and continue to lessen any long- or late-term side effects.
Is it okay to ask my doctor about therapy?
Absolutely. Cancer rehabilitation is a team effort and we count on input from your physician and cancer care team.
Will I be too tired to attend cancer rehabilitation therapy?
Our cancer rehabilitation treatment plans are designed to be flexible. If you are experiencing fatigue, it is important to attend your therapy appointment and discuss any concerns with your therapist. Your therapist will modify your care plan to meet your needs and help you stay on track to achieve your goals.
Can cancer rehabilitation relieve my pain?
Yes, cancer rehabilitation can address pain relief. We use a variety of treatments and exercises to restore range of motion, strength and endurance.
The goal is to decrease any pain or discomfort you are experiencing. You should let your therapist know what treatment components help relieve your pain or if there are activities that cause you more pain so they can modify the plan of care to best fit you.
Are all therapists trained to treat people affected by cancer?
Therapists who provide cancer rehabilitation care require additional specialty training. They are knowledgeable and practice the most current, evidence-based management techniques and regularly participate in ongoing education to ensure they are aware of new, cutting-edge treatments.
Is my ReVital cancer rehabilitation therapist licensed?
All ReVital therapists are licensed within their respective states of practice. We encourage you to ask your therapist about their credentials, licensing and ReVital certification training.
