Lisa Schnitzer's Story

Breast cancer rehabilitation

Lisa Schitzner describes her positive experience working with our ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation team of experts on getting her back to living after reconstructive surgery.

Lisa Schnitzer had breast cancer and went through several treatments, including a lumpectomy, axial dissection, reconstruction surgery and 33 rounds of radiation. She chose the ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation program at Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation – Outpatient Therapy in Mueller, Texas to help her get back to the things she cares about the most.

Her right arm and armpit were swollen and hard to move. In addition, Lisa experienced nerve pain (neuropathy) in both hands and struggled with thinking and memory issues caused by chemotherapy. Her physical therapist was Sara Schindler PT, DPT.

Lisa shared these kind words about her experience:

"Sara is amazing. She is empathetic but pushes me in just the way I need to be pushed. She has helped me with confidence and shown me that I can make progress. Her knowing about cancer is extremely helpful because there are so many facets to cancer recovery.

I'm extremely impressed with her knowledge and empathy for the situation. This was one of the best follow up therapies I could have had after breast cancer. I had a very rough road through treatment and I feel like they are helping restore my strength and range of motion."

Way to go, Lisa!
